Multisensory Learning Environment

Students at Sir Eric Woodward Memorial School enjoy the use of a large Multi Sensory Room.
Equipment in this room includes a bubble column, specialist lighting, a projector which casts slow-moving images or colours around the walls, a mirror ball with spotlight and switch activated fibre-optic sprays.
Walls are lined with tactile panels which include mirrors, beads, bells and switches to maximize the sensory experience. Other activities include vibrating pillows, aromatherapy materials and portable sensory boxes. There Is also an interactive whiteboard, surround sound equipment.
The room is also kitted out with specialist switches to suit the physical abilities of students. These switches offer active rather than passive learning experiences and provide communication and choice-making opportunities for students.
The Sensory Room also provides the perfect setting for developing fine and gross motor goals as well as a great venue to maximise hearing and vision therapy goals.
