Autism Support Unit

The Primary Support Unit (Autism) is a 2 year intervention program supporting Year 5 & 6 students with an autism spectrum disorder. The unit is set up to support the successful transition of students into the High School environment.

Students continue to work within the Board of Studies Curriculum which is adapted to cater to their individual learning styles. Incorporated into the curriculum are specialised programs which aim to enhance social skills, behaviour and communication.

The intervention program maintains a strong link with each student’s local school, with students attending 5/6W four days a week and returning to their Home School each Wednesday. SEW supports each student in their home school by building the capacity of staff to support the students’ on-going needs within their mainstream school environment.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about whether Australia should be exporting livestock like sheep and cattle overseas. Following class discussion on this topic, 5.6W have created a voki to express their opinions and concerns.
